The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) has urged the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) to publish an SME directory to up date information on all SMEs by their activities and sector.
President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver said the main objectives of the directory would be to provide up to date information on the entrepreneurs in Pakistan according to their activities in trading, manufacturing, services and farming sector wise and location wise with their contact details.
The directory would also be useful to the stakeholders for marketing their products and services. The directory would serve as a promotional tool.
Thaver said copies of the directory should be provided to all consulates and embassies abroad for promotion of SME quality export goods.
He said SMEDA can invite bids from publishers who would be willing to prepare the directory commercially and earn from advertisements in the directory and with no cost to SMEDA.
Besides providing contacts of SMEs the directory could contain useful information about the services provided by SMEDA and other SME promotion and development organizations such as the Engineering Development Board, the Pakistan Council of Industrial and Scientific Research, the National Productivity Organization and several other non government organizations involved in SME uplift.
The union chief said that many banks, insurance companies, leasing, pre-shipment inspection and logistics companies are always asking us to provide list of SMEs for their marketing and a directory of SMEs would be welcomed by all of them and they would be happy to purchase the directory.
