The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) has invited the kind attention of the prime minister (PM) Mian Nawaz Sharif to the urgent need of high impact actions for the uplift of the micro and SME majority sector.
President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver in a message to the PM said it is very important that the SMEs sector is financed, provided land at concession on pay as you earn basis, given technological and marketing support. Tax relief for new entrants and friendly policies.
He said the SMEs need an SME specific bank with SME start up fund, bridge financing facilities and subsidized financing for installing renewable alternate energy systems.
For the promotion of the sector it is very important to have SME chamber of commerce, SME export bureau, SME Insurance, leasing and SME Institute.
The present chambers are pursuing their own agenda of promoting the big enterprises and the small are left to themselves.
The sector is anxiously awaiting the promised Exim Bank, the SME Ombudsman and the SME Liasion Committee
( SME-LC) to facilitate the sector as the CPLC is catering to the large sector.
The union chief said the sector expects SME friendly policies from the PML- N government and is looking forward to reduction in cost of doing business and facilities for ease of doing business.
The union thanked the PM for the PM Youth Loan Scheme and help offered to the youth under the scheme. The under privileged sector has very high expectations from their PM who undoubtedly has soft corner for the sector and the sectors only hope is the PM’s concern and love for the sector.
UNISAME SME Council urged the PM to reduce the import duty on raw and packing materials to reduce cost and also reduce levies on farm inputs.
Other suggestions were to strengthen the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) and to upgrade it on modern lines to enable its scope and broader reach.
The SME Council also requested the PM to include their representatives on SMEDA board and other institutions like SME Bank, Leasing and Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) till such time the SMEs have their own institutions.
