The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) expressed regret that the price monitoring cells in the provinces are not functioning meaningfully and not performing effectively.
President Unisame Zulfikar Thaver said it is indeed a matter of serious concern that the retailers have increased the prices exorbitantly disrespecting all norms of business on the pretext of inflation wave and hike in petrol prices and have increased prices non proportionately.
The survey conducted by the experts indicated that they have increased prices of all commodities either imported or produced locally and this has caused tremendous increase in prices of food grains, foodstuffs, general merchandise, apparel, durables, engineering goods, no item has been spared, perishable, non perishable all under the pretext of cost of logistics, the dollar exchange rate and all out of proportion and much more than the actual impact it has had infact looks like they have seized the opportunity.
The transporters, the restaurants, all services providers each and everyone has increased their charges and prices.
The Unisame Council (UC) said the worst sufferers are the fixed income and salaried class who are finding it difficult to survive and have cut their expenses and compelled to change their lifestyle and some have started selling their assets to survive.
UC has urged the consumer associations and the consumer protection bodies to act fast and monitor the situation and check this malpractice in good time.
