The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) will be celebrating the International Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Day being the 27th of June 2023 tomorrow.
Zulfikar Thaver president UNISAME said the SME stakeholders in Pakistan and all over the world are commemorating the MSME day.
Thaver said the SMEs in Pakistan are the majority sector, the backbone of the economy and the engine of growth. The SMEs have faced very difficult times during the last few years due to Covid pandemic and then the economic downslide. Besides inflation has also increased the cost of production and reduced the buying power.
In normal times he said the SMES contribute about 35 %to exports and they have a big labour force both in the industrial units and the farm sector. UNISAME has taken the SME farmers in their fold and is focused on improving the yields and modernizing farming.
As far as the industries are concerned efforts are being made to fill the technological gap.
The UNISAME Council members have urged the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority
( SMEDA) to impress upon the government to facilitate, support, promote and encourage the SMEs to progress and adopt modern methods of accounting, marketing, storing, production and communications. They also need to achieve international standards and bench marks.
On behalf of the UNISAME and himself he thanked all stakeholders and appreciated the contribution of SMEDA, State Bank of Pakistan, commercial banks and financial institutions who have worked hard for the uplift of the sector.
The UNISAME Council members urged the government to cater to the requirements of the sector by meeting their requirements of land and machinery on soft loans and finance at affordable rates. Also to arrange for transfer of technology, joint ventures, collaboration and partnerships for growth on fast track.
