The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) has felicitated Yousaf Naseem Khokhar on his appointment as federal secretary commerce and expressed happiness on his appointment because of his expertise in SME promotion and development as he had remained chief executive officer of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) during 2011 to 2014.
UNISAME has hailed and welcomed his appointment and is confident he will leave no stone upturned to uplift the under privileged sector.
President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver said Khokhar brings with him a rich experience of policy making and performance having been in different ministries both provincial and federal.
Thaver said Yousaf Khokhar has become the federal commerce secretary at a very challenging time and a time which no commerce secretary has ever witnessed. The federal cabinet took a very tough decision to ban exports of all edible items and this calls for constant monitoring and vigilance to restore exports as soon as the situation of domestic sufficiency is achieved because exports is the life line.
Thaver invited the attention of the federal secretary to the goods under shipment, committed contracts and export refinance obtained and said the exporters are confident that the ministry of commerce (MINCOM) will look into the facts and accommodate the shippers to enable them honour their commitments.
UNISAME Council has urged the federal commerce secretary to give priority to the SME sector which has been worst affected by the Coronavirus and has suffered due to global lock down and suspension/ cancellation of orders. The council also called upon the MINCOM to co-ordinate with the ministry of industries and production and State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) co-operating under the SME Pakistan Forum (SME-PF) to focus on the issues faced by the sector and make best endeavours to overcome as best as possible.
