Aug 24, 2024 |

The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) applauded prime minister (PM) Shebaz Sharif’s prompt response to their demands of reviving the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) and giving priority to strengthening it.
President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver said the PM’s directives to appoint CEO of SMEDA and formation of the board of directors (BoD) promptly and setting up of steering committee comprising of private sector representatives are much appreciated. SMEDA’s size and scope needs to be enhanced and it is hoped that the BoD to be formed would recommend this as well to make it’s out reach better and wider.
Thaver has invited the kind attention of the PM to a long outstanding demand of setting up a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in SMEDA and other authorities for excellence in efficiency, outlook, planning, outreach, implementation and delivery.
Thaver hoped that the PM will consider this request and issue directives promptly.
The UNISAME Council (UC) members thanked the PM for the SME fund and its availability for the sector promotion and development.
The UC members emphasized the need for fast track implementation of remaining agenda as per SME policy for the uplift and support of the sector in the areas of marketing support, modernization, upgrading of SME units, technological support, facilities for collaboration, joint ventures and partnerships with globally advanced countries.
The UC pointed out that setting up of committees is good but practically delays implementation. It would be better if the CEO and his team are given deadlines for fast track implementation.
