Zulfikar Thaver representative in Pakistan and member United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) thanked prime minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif and his team for very positive steps to control the law and order situation in Karachi.
Thaver said UNGC is impressed by the steps taken by the PM and his team and also the provincial government in Sindh to curb gangsterism, land mafia, street crimes, kidnapping for ransom and abstracting money from industrialist by force and the results are obvious.
He said there is no doubt that the PM is deeply concerned and his visit to Karachi and his actions and instructions to the Sindh government proves his sincerity. The situation has improved since then and the business community is thankful to the PM and his team and also the chief minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah and his team for lending support to the plan.
The UNGC pointed out that crime in Karachi has reached a level where it has become imperative to take action without discrimination and with an iron hand.
The pockets of the gangsters are known to the law enforcing agencies, their headquarters and operational points from where they operate boldly are also identified, it is now very necessary that they be targeted and diffused scientifically with the help of rangers, police and intelligence agencies.
The UNGC expressed full confidence in the measures and expected positive results and urged the Sindh government to co-operate to enliven Karachi one again to restore the confidence of the business community.
