Karachi, October 14, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) has advised the SMEs to engage themselves in the manufacture of relief goods and disaster management supplies to the organizations both government and non government serving the refugees and disaster affected persons in different countries of the world.

President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver said the union has received immediate supply enquiries from middle eastern countries for various items such as bedsheets, towels, tents, tarpaulins, canvas, ropes, bamboos, nivar, kit bags, beddings, mattresses, floor mats and water cans. In addition the importing countries also need food grains, cooking oils and utensils. Also washing and bathing soaps are urgently required by the host countries and donors to make the refugees comfortable most of whom have come from Syria.

He requested the SMEs manufacturing the relief goods to offer their goods and urged them to maintain quality and bench mark irrespective of the fact that they are being paid by the donors and the donors are seeking very low rates.

Those SMEs desiring financial support, warehousing facilities and logistic services are welcome to contact the union for help, support and guidelines.

The union has also urged the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) to set up relief camps to be sponsored by the large sector and to distribute items manufactured by the SME units and purchased by the large sector under the corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds from the SME units.
