PML-N NEEDS TO IMPLEMENT POLICIES–LETHARGY WILL GIVE RISE TO UNREST & PROTEST

The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) invited the attention of the prime minister (PM) Mian Nawaz Sharif to the urgent need to implement policies and bring reforms in the remaining part of his tenure for avoiding failure of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) government. PML-N government cannot afford to drag, it needs to act and bring about much needed reforms.Lethargy will prove adverse and give rise to unrest and protest.
President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver said the PML-N enjoys comfortable majority in parliament and is in a position to improve the state of affairs in the country. He urged the PM to seriously include in his agenda overcoming of energy shortage,poor law and order, wide spreading corruption due to the kleptomaniacs,high inflation, unemployment, neglect of the SME sector and poor governance. Many institutions are malfunctioning due to the delay in the appointments of their chief executive officers and some appointments made are not made on merit. He said the PM must take bold steps after seeking the advise of the experts and roll up his sleeves to ensure realistic and implementable plans for alternate energy, adopt measures for curbing crime rate,enforcing anti corruption systems. The PM needs to study the behavior pattern of the kleptomaniacs who have turned democracy into kleptocracy and are grabbing wealth by unlawful means. There is huge inflation and the PM needs to hire economist to advise him on curbing the high cost of production. There is huge imports of hundreds of items by undeclared money and there is no check on imports of several items being manufactured in the country. There is no protection to domestic industry resulting in disinvestment and closure of factories. Unemployment is due to several factors mainly due to no new industries being set up, the industrialist are hesitant because of the poor law and order situation and the energy crisis. The SME sector which has potentiality is neglected as the government has failed to realize the importance of the SME sector and its worth. The SME sector is capable of bringing about self employment and the entrepreneurs need to be facilitated. The SMEs need finance at affordable mark up, land at concession, duty free import of machinery and raw material including packing material. The government has failed to implement the SME policy which envisaged the rapid growth of the economy through the SME sector. The promises of SME promotion institutions have been shelved and the sector is neglected despite the fact that it is the majority sector. Thaver said it is better late than never and the PM must take positive urgent steps to privatize the loss incurring institutions, Appoint experienced and honest heads of institutions,pay surprise visits to ministries and connected organizations. Ask for compliance reports from ministers and bureaucrats, revamp the PM secretariat with dedicated officers on merit. Thaver urged the PM to seek expert advice on the matters of taxation, incentives to new comers and investors. He urged the PM to take steps to build the confidence of the new investors by giving them security and protection. Pakistan has vast potential for growth in value addition, import substitution industries and indigenous raw material industries and the PM needs to facilitate the investors and also ensure security and protection. |
