Naheed Memon likely to take over as CEO of SMEDA….The Financial Daily 16/08/19
KARACHI: The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) has learnt from reliable sources that Ms Naheed Memon is mostly likely to be appointed as chief executive officer( CEO ) of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) Naheed Memon has been former chairperson of Sindh Board of Investment ( BoI), says a Press release.
As such all shortlisted namely Alamgir Chaudhry, Javed Khattak and Hasnain Javed all are equally competent and experts in SME promotion and Development. However the new CEO will have to face challenges to rejuvenate SMEDA and make it an effective and forceful authority and live upto the expectations of the under privileged majority sector.
Thaver said “We look forward to an early appointment to put things in good gear and fast track”.
He said whoever is appointed will need to expedite the SME Policy, conduct survey to ascertain the strength of the sector, begin fast track SME uplift, upgrade and modernize SME units, advocate the cause of the sector vigorously.
President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver said the union hopes the new CEO would comprehend the requirements of the sector for subsidized finance, setting up of Special Economic Zones (SEZ) for SMEs, filling of technological gap, global marketing support and tax relief and incentives for innovative, import substitution industries, facilitating, supporting , motivating and encouraging the farm sector and agro based units.
Thaver lamented the tall promises made by the government before elections and regretted the ignoring of the sector.
He said for 2 years SMEDA remained without CEO and UNISAME kept reminding the ministry of industries for the urgent need for CEO to lead the team at SMEDA.
