KARACHI: The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) has appreciated the intention of the government to do away with the more than 5000 regulations imposed in the country in various areas of services, trade and industry and applauded the role of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) to gather and collect the details from UNISAME, the chambers of commerce and the trade associations for review and after due consideration and diligence to do away with as many as possible, says a Press release.
President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver said in this connection our team was invited by the chief executive officer (CEO) and his team at SMEDA Karachi office on 23rd February 2021 to make doing business easy for the SMEs.
UNISAME experts namely Om Prakash Badlani, Chaudhry Azhar, Aman Shah and Zulfikar Thaver pointed out the futile regulations in textiles, food, engineering, electronics and services sector to SMEDA officials. The earlier these regulations are removed the better they emphasized. Those which are very necessary will remain but the SME unit will be facilitated to file return of compliance online.
The Union chief urged Hashim Raza the CEO SMEDA to ensure the immediate setting up of some very important SME institutions to make doing business easy.
The institutions urgently needed are the institutes for technology to fill the technological gap, the SME fund for the SME sector uplift, the liaison committee for protection, the Ombudsman for remedy against high handedness, the bureau for value addition and promotion of healthy business practices and customer care,
Needless to say most urgent are SME specific bank, credit guarantee, export-import bank, crop insurance scheme, pay as you earn scheme and an SME gallery with business portal for global marketing support. In fact no time must be wasted and immediate steps must be taken to set up these high impact institutions for fast track promotion and development.
Thaver said we fail to understand as to why these bodies are not being set up and bureaucracy is beating around the bush and forming committees rather than acting swiftly in the best interest of the sector and enabling it to overcome global challenges.
