Whilst felicitating Anwar ul Haq Kakar on becoming care taker prime minister (PM) the Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) has invited his attention to the fact that the SME sector is the majority sector and deserves priority during his period of care as PM and must not be neglected.
President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver reminded him that SME sector is the engine of growth and could keep the economy vibrant if given the opportunity by getting help, support, facilities and encouragement.
Thaver said the SMEs are in turmoil due to import restrictions and their units are on the verge of closure due to exhaustion their raw material inventories.
UNISAME Council members pointed out that imports and exports are like warp and weft of the economic fabric and without imports, exports are suffering. They said the SME units are doing value addition and exporting goods after handsome value addition. The SMEs need finance at affordable mark up, affordable energy and raw material at affordable import duties. They need uninterrupted supply of raw material.
They said the masses are unable to cope up and are under heavy stress for survival due to high inflation, high cost of fuel and electricity and kitchen items.
Inflation has hit almost all items from food , clothing, medicine, education and commutation.
The industries are suffering due to high cost of energy, raw material, logistics and other factors of production and if not given relief will collapse.
It is very important that the PM selects a competent team which is well aware of the issues and knows the remedy otherwise the economy will remain in doldrums.
Secondly it is also very important that the PM deals with all the mafias in various segments with an iron hand without fear or favour especially sugar, wheat, solar, poultry, meat and others owned by the influential and powerful businessmen.
In view of these issues the PM needs to focus on them and make extra ordinary efforts and an agenda for the under privileged to ensure a fair and just policy to be remembered as an outstanding care taker PM.
