The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises has urged the government to arrange manufacture of solar panels in Pakistan and facilitate any big competent private sector party to set up a plant in Pakistan with Chinese collaboration.
UNISAME president Zulfikar Thaver said one of our senior council members who preferred to remain anonymous suggested that when we can manufacture cell phones with collaboration why we cannot make mobile phones. He emphasized the need for solar panels to be manufactured in the country to make them affordable and available abundantly.
Thaver said imported solar panels are proving costly although the government has exempted it from duties but it would be best to manufacture solar panels in Pakistan.
He said this is the need of the hour and will make it affordable for SMEs to install solar energy systems in their homes and factories.
Secondly he said the government should make it mandatory for new houses and factories to install solar systems as the electricity is short and cannot accommodate all consumers.
Thirdly he said the State Bank of Pakistan’s finance scheme for solar and alternate energy systems needs to be revised to make it accessible for the SMEs at more affordable rates to promote it rapidly to cover farms and factories.
Solar energy would make life easy in the rural area but the SME farmers are not in a position to install it as it is expensive for them but if they are manufactured in Pakistan and subsidized it will change the destiny of the SME farmers said Haji Muhammad Saeed chairman of SME Farmers Association of Pakistan.
