KARACHI : The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) entered into an agreement with the IAL Logistics, a division of IAL Pakistan Ltd, to facilitate the small to medium sized exporters to ship their cargoes promptly to global destinations on competitive freight rates under efficient tracking systems and post shipment services.
President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver welcomed Captain Mohammad Atiq Siddiqui (General Manager), Arif Ahmed Siddiqui (Manager), Abdullah Rajabally (Assistant Manager) and Azed Ali Kamran (Operation Incharge) IAL Logistics and acquainted them with the shipping issues of the SMEs and urged them to facilitate the SMEs with speed and efficiency for smooth shipments. Speedy
delivery with cargo care is the basic requirement of the SME exporter.
Thaver informed them about the high freight rates, non availability of containers, shut out by vessels and lack of response from stations at dry ports. The trucks on way to the port were being looted and there is need to arrange for guards with the trucks and secondly to arrange for insurance cover against theft, pilferage and non delivery.
There is lack of information and slow response from the shipping agents about dispatch of transit cargo from connected ports and transit cargo is not promptly dispatched to final destination and SMEs are subjected to claims from the buyers for late deliveries.
He complained that freight forwarders were quoting rates over and above the liner freight rates and charging extra documentation charges. The clearing agents were charging high truck charges from the units to the port and
especially to Port Qasim.
Arif Siddiqui informed the participants that IAL Logistics has excellent arrangements for carrying cargo from the factories in volume containers to the port and efficient staff to carry out custom formalities, with timely shipment of containers on board their own *IAL lines* and other associated lines.
He particularly emphasized regular shipments to Dubai, Mina Sultan Qaboos, Colombo and Umme Qasar of rice, sugar, cement and urged the participants to benefit from the efficient round the clock services of the
IAL Group.
