The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) appreciated the suggestion of Rana Afzal Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz PML-N MNA and parliamentary secretary at the “ SME Growth Round Table Conference “ that trade associations need to be strengthened and enabled to facilitate the members.
President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver supported the concept and stated that since the PML-N government is a business friendly government the business community expects full support from the government.
He said it is important that associations build themselves to serve the interest of the trade and offer facilities to attract membership by virtue of their advocacy for the sector and the trade information about latest technology, modernization and facilitate the members to improve their productivity and build their reputation on strong footings.
He also appreciated the step taken by the ministry of commerce (MINCOM) for removal of the mandatory membership condition due to the mandatory condition being unconstitutional and the ruling of the superior courts.
Thaver said an association has to stand on its own feet and merit and offer valuable services to such an extent that it attracts membership and the business community voluntarily seeks their membership.
Secondly the union chief urged the trade associations to make their fees affordable for the SMEs and not increase their fees exorbitantly.
He invited the trade associations to contact the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) for training in serving the members and urged SMEDA to conduct sessions for training the committee members of various associations in offering best professional services on modern lines to its members.
