The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises
( UNISAME) whilst appreciating and welcoming the decision of the prime minister Shehbaz Sharif to take the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority
( SMEDA) under his direct supervision and control has requested him to appoint an expert as an advisor to help him put the majority sector on fast track SME promotion and development as much time has already been lost.
President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver said SME promotion and development is no charity, it is the duty of a welfare state and it’s government to promote and support the sector. It is indeed a wise decision of the PM and one of our long outstanding demand and also a practice in most of the countries of the world where the SME promotion is directly under the chief executive of the country.
Thaver said the PM now needs to put SME promotion and development on fast track and this is only possible by taking high impact measures as suggested by UNISAME.
The Unisame Council members have urged the PM to appoint an advisor who knows the subject in and out as SME promotion and development is not everybody’s cup of tea. A very specialized scientific approach is needed.
The Union has suggested the appointment of Ahmed Nawaz Sukhera who was the CEO of SMEDA at one time and later federal secretary who has performed very well in his tenure.
The Unisame Council members have urged the PM to focus on export of SME wares through a global SME Gallery to offer marketing support. Secondly set up a desk at SMEDA to promote modernization to fill the technological gap and also arrange for joint ventures, collaboration and partnerships with China and other obliging countries. Also product upgradation to come close to international bench mark.
Thirdly to promote asset based Islamic financing for purchase of machinery, land, offices, factories, workshops under commercial leasing. Popularly known as ‘Pay as you earn scheme’
Fourthly to encourage, support, help and guide special initiatives.
These are high impact measures which are very necessary and without which no fast track development will take place.
UNISAME has offered full co-operation to the PM and his secretariat for making SMEDA a notable institution.
