MINCOM URGED TO SET UP BARTER CELL AT ONCE… The Financial Daily 05/02/23

Feb 5, 2023 |

The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises ( UNISAME) has urged Syed Naveed Qamar Federal minister Commerce asking his ministry to set up a barter cell in Mincom to promote barter trade between interested countries and Pakistan for exchange of each other’s surplus goods.
President Zulfikar Thaver said this will enable Pakistan fill the gap caused because of negligible imports due to dearth of foreign exchange. Pakistan is in a position to export to Iran, Turkey, Central Asian and other countries items like rice, maize, foodstuffs, denim, vegetables, fruits and few other items in exchange for oil and petroleum products under barter.
Thaver said this has to be done fast as these are crucial times and the Mincom will need to take the initiative and propose promptly.
UNISAME Council members have stressed the need for immediate steps as the business community is badly affected due to non availability of packing materials and raw materials and this is leading to closure of industries one after and other. In many cases where they have the raw material , the packing material is found scarce or over. It is indeed a very difficult situation.
It is assumed that the friendly countries will accommodate Pakistan and lend a helping hand in meeting immediate requirements of Pakistan in these crucial times.
UNISAME is requesting the ministries not to be found wanting and stand up to the tough times and work round the clock to meet the grave situation.
