IPO SANS CHAIRMAN LAMENTS UNISAME

The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) invited the attention of the prime minister (Imran Khan) to the Intellectual Property Organization (IPO) remaining without a chairman since June 2021 after the retirement of Mujeeb Ahmed Khan.
UNISAME president Zulfikar Thaver said an organization like IPO should not remain without a chairman for long as intellectual property rights are an economic tool and moreover when very important matters are being decided in international and regional forums.
Thaver suggested that this time the vacancy needs to filled by a technocrat and not a bureaucrat, the chairman of IPO this time needs to be an expert in intellectual property rights who knows the subject in and out to lead this important organization to face international challenges.
Secondly he urged Meesaq Arif the executive director of IPO Pakistan to expedite the applications and matters of geographical indications (GI) of our popular items known for their extraordinary specialties and features by virtue of their geographical origin and merit to enable promotion of exports of goods under GI tag.
The UNISAME Council also urged the PM to facilitate the processors of our GI items by giving them international exposure to exhibit their products in global markets.
