SMEDA INVITES SME EXPORTERS TO DISCUSS ISSUES..The Financial Daily 21/10/21

KARACHI: The Culinary and Medicinal Herbs committee of the Union of Small
and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) is invited by Mukesh Kumar provincial chief
of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) for an
important meeting to discuss their issues on 21st October 2021 at SMEDA Karachi
office, says a Press release.
UNISAME president Zulfikar Thaver said the government has wisely allowed
the export of Hemp (Bhang) but has not yet allowed export of white food grade poppy
seeds called Khashkhas in vernacular language.

Approximately 2000 metric tons is cultivated in Mohamand agency in Dir and also
in various other areas of the border with Afghanistan. More can be grown and
foreign exchange can be earned.

SME exporters of commodities are getting inquiries and because of export not
being allowed the SMEs are losing this business and other commodity as
importers like to purchase all items from one source.
It is pertinent to note that Khashkhas is food item and being sold in super markets
and groceries all over the world freely as a food item.

food preparations as a culinary. It is indeed a food item for adding taste and nutritional benefits to any dish adding to its flavour
and look.
The participants namely Masood Khan a leading exporter of dry fruits and com-
modities, Zeeshan Nazim convener of the Culinary Herbs and Roots export commit-
tee, Munaf Bawany of Chef Pride, Zeeshan Haider of Dipit and Shakeel Najmi of
Doltons are processors and manufacturers of spices,sauces and commodities to inter-
national markets will also raise their issues of high cost of production, exhorbitant
increase in freight and lack of facilities.

It is hoped that the PC SMEDA will forward to SMEDA chief with his supporting
remarks for prompt relief to the SME exporters
