KARACHI, Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) urged the popularly elected leaders of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf (PTI) to influence their constituencies to observe energy saving to overcome the energy crisis.
President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver said it is indeed very surprising as to why the caretaker government of Mir Hazar Khan Khoso has not declared energy saving programme and not appealed to the countrymen to reduce their electricity consumption.
He said the electricity is wasted in industries, houses, shops and streets. The consumers can definitely reduce their consumption by 30% as per energy audit conducted by the union.Besides heavy amount of electricity is stolen with connivance of lineman and field staff and strict action needs to be taken against thieves who steal electricity.
All superfluous lights should be shut and the number of lights in industries, houses, shops and streets be reduced and only essential lights be kept on. There is no need to delay this announcement and its enforcement be observed strictly. Extra lights for decoration at weddings and functions be declared illegal and also decoration lights at shopping malls and plazas
be declared illegal.
This system is practiced in many countries and has proved successful. The leaders of political parties must announce this programme jointly and adopt a slogan “Save Electricity to Save Pakistan” or any other appealing slogan which can make an impression on the public that saving electricity is a must and no amount of electricity can be wasted and the country cannot afford to waste electricity he stated.
